Bathroom renovations in Melbourne, designed and built as one project

A full bathroom renovation packs a dozen trades into one small room. We plan it, build it and finish it as a single project, from the first conversation about how you want the room to feel to the final clean before you use it.

More than 200 projects completed over more than a decade.

One project, not a string of tradespeople

Most bathroom renovations that go wrong do so in the gaps: between the person who drew the layout and the person who has to plumb it, between the waterproofer and the tiler, between the vanity that was ordered and the wall it was meant for.

We close those gaps by running your bathroom as one considered process. The design, the selections, the order of works and the finish are planned together, so what you agree to at the start is what you walk into at the end. On time, on budget, and a seamless result.

What's included

A complete bathroom renovation, start to finish

Every room is different, but a full renovation with us typically covers:

  • An on-site consultation to see the room and hear what you want from it
  • Layout planning, including whether the shower, vanity or toilet should move
  • Help choosing tiles, tapware, vanity, shower screen and fixtures
  • Strip-out of the existing bathroom and removal of the waste
  • Plumbing and drainage changes to suit the new layout
  • Waterproofing of the wet areas before any tile goes down
  • Floor and wall tiling, set out so the cuts fall where the eye doesn't
  • Installation of the vanity, toilet, bath, shower screen and accessories
  • Lighting, exhaust and electrical fit-off
  • A final clean and a walk-through of the finished room with you

The work you don't see

A premium finish is decided before the tiles go on

The parts of a bathroom that make it last are hidden by the time it is finished. The falls that carry water to the waste, the waterproofing behind the shower and under the floor, the framing that a wall-hung vanity is fixed to, and the set-out that decides where every tile is cut.

Getting those right is what lets the visible finish look effortless: grout lines that run true, a niche that lines up with the tiles around it, glass that meets the wall cleanly, and a floor you never have to squeegee.

How it works

FAQ

Bathroom renovation questions

How does a bathroom renovation with Main Street Renovators start?

Call us or send an enquiry with a few details and, if you can, a photo or two of the room. We'll talk it through with you, then arrange a time to come and see the space in person. From there we work through the design, the materials and a plan for the build before anything is pulled out.

What affects the cost of a bathroom renovation?

The biggest factors are the size of the room, whether the layout changes (moving a toilet, shower or vanity means moving plumbing), how much of the room is tiled and with what, the fixtures and tapware you choose, any custom joinery or stone, and what is found behind the old tiles once demolition starts. That is why we quote after seeing the room rather than over the phone.

How long does a bathroom renovation take?

It depends on the size of the room, whether the layout changes, and lead times on items such as custom vanities, stone tops and shower screens. Waterproofing and tiling also need set curing times that cannot be rushed. You'll have a schedule before work starts, and our aim on every job is the same: on time, on budget and a seamless result.

Do I need a permit to renovate a bathroom in Victoria?

A bathroom renovation that doesn't change the structure of the house often doesn't need a building permit, but moving or removing walls can. Plumbing work must be done by a licensed plumber, who issues a compliance certificate for it, and larger domestic building jobs in Victoria must be carried out by a registered builder with domestic building insurance. We'll explain what applies to your job at the consultation.

Can we keep living in the house during the renovation?

Usually, yes. If it is your only bathroom, plan for a period without a working shower and toilet in that room, and we'll talk through how to keep that as short and as manageable as possible when we plan the job.
